The oval medal features a raised and engraved image of Mary in the center, surrounded by the words, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee,". The back of the medal features the Miraculous symbol in an antiqued finish. The symbol is comprised of the letter "M" with a cross on the top and two hearts and twelve stars. The "M" is an abbreviation for Mary, the cross represents the sacrifice of Jesus, and the two hearts are the immaculate heart of the Virgin Mary and the sacred heart of Jesus. The twelve stars represent the apostles.

The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of our Lady of Graces, is a medal devoted to the Virgin Mary. The actual beautiful design of it, front and back, was imparted to Catherine Laboure who saw an apparition of Mary on November 27, 1830 in Paris, France. Mary spoke to Catherine and said "“Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it around their neck.” It is worn to this day by Christians who seek her guidance and blessing and who find great comfort in wearing it.
