For everyone who has ever tried to put the most important things into words.

He was a fisherman's son, mending nets on the Sea of Galilee, when Jesus walked past and called him. He left immediately — and never looked back.

John became the disciple whom Jesus loved with particular tenderness. He was present at the Transfiguration, at the Last Supper where he reclined at Christ's side, in the Garden of Gethsemane, and at the foot of the cross — the only one of the twelve apostles who did not flee. When Jesus was dying he looked down and entrusted his mother Mary to John's care. Woman, behold your son. John, behold your mother. It is one of the most intimate moments in all of scripture.

He ran to the empty tomb on Easter morning — faster than Peter, the Gospel notes — and was the first to understand what the open tomb meant.

In Rome, the Emperor Domitian had him thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil. John emerged unharmed. Everyone who witnessed it in the Colosseum converted to Christianity. Domitian banished him to the island of Patmos, where John wrote the Book of Revelation. He went on to found churches across Asia Minor, outlived every one of his fellow apostles, and died peacefully in Ephesus around the year 100.

In his old age he would visit the churches he had founded and say the same thing every time: My dear children, love one another. When asked why he kept repeating it he replied — Because it is the precept of the Lord, and if you comply with it, you do enough.

He wrote the most luminous and mystical of the four Gospels — the one that opens In the beginning was the Word — along with three epistles and the Book of Revelation.

He is patron saint of authors, friendships, love and loyalty — everyone who has ever tried to put the most important things into words.

Saint John, pray for us.

This sterling silver oval medal carries his image on the front — Saint John seated in the garden of Galilee, writing his Gospel, the words Saint John Pray For Us encircling the pendant. The back can be engraved with a name, a date, or a word that matters — making this a deeply personal gift for the writer, the reader, the friend, or anyone whose life is built on love and loyalty.

What to engrave: A name. A date. A single word — Beloved. Write. Love. Word. Up to 8 characters per line, three lines available.

For the writer beginning a new chapter. The author finishing a long work. The friend who has always shown up. The reader whose faith is fed by words.

.925 sterling silver oval medal, satin and antiqued finish, 1" x 5/8". On a 24 inch rhodium plated stainless steel curb chain with lobster claw clasp. Engraving available on request. Presented in an elegant velour jewelry box.
