"All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well."

These words were written in 1373 by Julian of Norwich — an extraordinary woman who became the first known female author in the English language. Born in 1342 during the ravages of the Black Death, Julian survived a near-fatal illness at thirty in which she received sixteen visions of divine love. What she wrote afterward changed the world's understanding of God.

As an anchoress, Julian lived in a small cell attached to a church in Norwich — in solitude, prayer, and contemplation. She never left. Yet through a small curtained window she counseled countless souls in grief, poverty and plague. Doctors, merchants, the grieving and the lost came to her. Her message was always the same: all shall be well.

Her one permitted companion was a cat - allowed to keep vermin at bay. In that small cell, the cat became her only living confidant — and legend holds that together, woman and cat held a quiet flame of grace against the darkness of plague and suffering that surrounded them outside her walls. Julian is remembered to this day as the patron saint of cats and contemplatives.

This design honors Julian with a luminous triptych drawn from the Aberdeen Bestiary — a 12th century English illuminated manuscript of extraordinary beauty — rendered in lapis lazuli blue, burnished gold, and crimson. Three cats, three "all shall be well." The repetition is intentional. So was Julian.

Made from 100% cotton and dyed with clean, low-impact color, it’s cozy, eco-friendly, and built to last.

The Comfort Colors heavyweight boxy tee is beloved for its substantial feel, relaxed silhouette, and vintage-washed softness. Please note the boxy crop fit — it sits slightly shorter and wider than a standard tee. When in doubt, size up for a more relaxed drape.
