God's Teardrops is a beautiful organic cotton eco tote featuring original watercolor art — fuchsia in full bloom, inspired by a plant that bloomed and bloomed through an entire summer season, drawing hummingbirds to its coral and violet bells with extraordinary faithfulness.
In the west of Ireland — along the winding roads of Kerry, Connemara, and the Beara Peninsula — fuchsia grows wild in extraordinary abundance, tumbling over stone walls and hedgerows in cascades of coral and purple. The Irish country people gave her a name that has never been improved upon: deora Dé — God's Teardrops.
She arrived in Europe by a remarkable journey. In 1697, a French monk named Charles Plumier encountered her for the first time on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and brought her story back to the botanical world. He named the genus Fuchsia in honor of Leonhart Fuchs, a celebrated 16th century German botanist — whose name, delightfully, comes from the Latin for fox. The color fuchsia was named after the flower. Not the other way around.
Her blooms are specifically shaped for hummingbirds — long, pendulous, nectar-rich, designed by millions of years of evolution to fit precisely the reach of a hovering bird. In gardens where she is grown, the hummingbirds always find her.
Wherever you garden, consider choosing plants that feed the pollinators — they ask for less and give the local birds, bees, and butterflies so much more.
Carry your market haul, your books, your daily essentials in something rooted in old Irish magic and alive with summer color.
Made from organic cotton — because the bag that carries your groceries should be as nature-friendly as the garden that inspired it.
