Marigold Matins is a beautiful hardcover nature journal featuring original photography from a coastal New Jersey pollinator garden — captured through a camera lens and transformed into watercolour art.

This image arrived in late summer in a coastal New Jersey garden — a bumblebee, nose-down and wholly devoted, working the ruffled blooms of a marigold that had grown, improbably, to five feet tall. The original photograph was taken in a pollinator garden being lovingly restored on the Atlantic Flyway, one native plant at a time.
Rendered in warm watercolour, the image carries the saffron and gold of a garden at its most generous — still flowering, still feeding, long into autumn.
The back cover carries the full story of the marigold — known in the medieval Catholic tradition as Mary's Gold, a flower that bloomed at the times of the great Marian feast days and was laid at her feet as a humble offering. Humble, bright and inexhaustibly generous. A poor woman's flower. A flower that understood devotion. And a flower, it turns out, that the bees have always known how to find.
