Monarch Morning is an enamel camp mug featuring an original illustration — a Monarch butterfly resting on milkweed grown from seed, on the Monmouth County Bayshore.

It began on St. Patrick's Day, seeds pressed into soil inside an old turkey roasting pan — an unlikely nursery for something that would eventually feed a butterfly. By the Summer Solstice, twelve seedlings were strong enough to plant in a circle in the garden, a small act of faith that summer would bring what it was meant to.

It did. In July, a Monarch found the milkweed by the mailbox — and that same day, flew past the bay window, as if to be sure it was seen. This mug holds that photograph, transformed into illustration, so the moment can be carried along on quiet mornings with coffee or tea in hand.
